Curiosities:

A species typical of European mountain environments, growing among rocks, screes and cool woodlands. Although related to the well-known Valeriana officinalis, it is less commonly used in herbal medicine; however, in Alpine traditions it was still used to calm nervousness and promote sleep. Its rhizome releases a strong scent once associated with protective properties, sometimes used as a natural talisman. Ecologically, it is important for high-altitude pollinators, flowering during summer.
